Floral Derangement - Saturday 5/30/2009

I finally planted the rose bush we bought last weekend in the planter Hydra built when he built the wall a few years ago. Wow, it's a gorgeous color, huh?



African Daisies on the street side of the house. One of the plants died. Why? There was enough water. Sigh.


The star jasmine smells great.

Right about here, I got some sort of gunk on the lens. Boo!

Jungle Tub - Sunday 3/1/2009

Every fall I bring all the succulents in from the front porch to the warmth and safety of our master bathroom. They love it. Sometimes they go a little kookoo.


I love succulents because they are so freaky and other worldly. This bloom is about a foot high, and springs from a plant that looks like a giant hen & chickens.


The bottom of the bloom. I've had this thing for 8 years--given to me by Saharazad, and this is the first time it's bloomed.

Oh, and yes, there's fauna in the jungle too.

Palm Wednesday

Just because I thought you needed to see this.

Those are palm trees reclining on a trailer. You can understand why I didn't frame the picture a little better.

What a Difference a Week Makes - Sunday 5/4/2008

Wow, it was just a week ago that I planted sunflower and herb seeds in this little terrarium style planter.

It's almost creepy how quickly they've taken off.

Planting Et Cetera - Sunday 4/27/2008

Bought three tomato plants today. I think this is a Sweet 100 cherry tomato. I also brought home an Early Girl and a Celebrity bush-style, one of which will be planted in the cool upside-down hanging planter we bought...when we figure out where to hang it so that it's four feet off the ground.

I'd heard that you are supposed to plant tomato plants beneath the surface, but the instructions said 80% under the surface! Okay, that's what I did. We'll see!



Also started sunflowers and mixed herbs in these nifty little things. They were flat pellets a couple of minutes ago. Now they'll be in a little greenhouse till they're happily sprout-laden.



Remember the palm fruit and the light a while back? The fruit has opened up!

Jungle Tub - Saturday 12/01/2007

Decided that the plants had to be moved in off the front porch for the winter. It's been getting down to around 32 degrees at night.

About half of these are cuttings taken from Braveheart's yard. I lost a lot of plants last year because I didn't move fast enough and she gave me lots of starts.

Good thing I'm not much of a bath person. (And we have another deeper tub in the guest bathroom.)



Cool Thing: This amazing database of bird photographs and calls at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology! I just identified the beautiful song that's being sung outside my window this morning as that of a White Crowned Sparrow. (If you go, you can hear a sample for yourself.)
