The View from Braveheart's Front Porch - Wednesday 7/18/2007

5:15 a.m.

Looking toward Century City. Fifty years ago, that was the 20th Century-Fox backlot.

My last waitressing job was there, in the now-defunct Sports Deli. It was a fun time.

I think the whole ABC complex between the Century Plaza Hotel and the towers, where the Sports Deli was, has been torn down since then.

Sigh.

This city has changed so much in such a short amount of time. It gives me hope for the future though. We can make a change for good if we all try.

Yes, change isn't always a bad thing. The archetecture there was certainly nothing to cling to. It's just always odd to think that a place you inhabited so fully has been completely transformed. I wonder what sort of rememory I'd find if I went back over there!

I saw my first show (A Chorus Line) at the Shubert in the ABC Entertainment Center.

The first one-on-one meal I ever had with the guy I ended up marrying was at the Sports Deli. I don't remember what I had. He had a sandwich. On rye bread.

And I saw Star Wars (the first and best one) half a dozen times at the big movie theaters there.

I worked in one of the towers when I was in college, so I probably ate in every restaurant nearby at least once. OK, definitely only once for Jade West.

Meeeeeemmmmmorieeeees.

Um, what were you doing there at 5am?

Noel's question is a good one. I wonder that as well.

KathyR... That's cool! I never went to the Schubert. We used to go to Harry's Bar after work, and some of the other places around there. I was there from about '85-89.

Noel and Liz... Ha! I usually spend the night after our writing group meetings at Braveheart's house. I was creeping out early enough to get in a little writing at Big Boy before work.
