Putting My Feet Where My Mouth Is - Thursday 2/26/2009

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to scale these rocks!

Sometime in the middle of the afternoon over on Facebook I said I'd rather be hiking. It sparked a lot of agreeable conversation.

It was sunny and cool, so I bypassed the gym and went to Vasquez Rocks County Park for a hike.

My foot next to some nice moss. Amazing green!

The long view.

As I climbed the first ridge, a ranger called out through a bullhorn that the park would be closing in about 45 minutes.

Ah well. It was time to pick up the pace.

Water on the trail. Very exciting.

The famous rock as seen through the skeleton of a reproduction native dwelling.

I thought of you as I took off into the rocks. Have we ever hiked there? It's never this green when you visit, is it?!

The Ghost of Captain Kirk are in those hills and he's fighting an alegator.

Wow, that looks beautiful. I want to go there... how do you get there?

It's about 15 minutes from my house. Not maybe 45-60 from you? 5 to the 14.

Here's the address for your Google-mapping pleasure: 10700 W. Escondido Canyon Rd. Agua Dulce, CA 91350. And I added a link to park info to my post.

They're open till dusk, which right now is about 5:30, I think. If you come out and feel like a little company let me know! (Or have your own private family outing and DON'T feel odd at all about not letting me know.)

Thanks so much for the directions/address! I would LOVE to go hike with you sometime because I'm a total novice at it other than traipsing through Griffith Park!

This is perfect, then, because it's easy to get to and not any more challenging than Griffith Park...plus you get rocks! It's just pretty exposed, so it's hard going once it gets hot.
