Sailing the Corn - Monday 6/22/2009

B shares her freshly picked peas with me! She also pulled radishes for our lunch. Mmmm.

J aboard the Hasty Decision. Great name for a sailboat, huh? Seats six. When are they gonna give her a maiden run on the Pacific is what I want to know.

B in her kitchen. This is typical B, telling a great story.

View of the pond from the lovely newly enclosed front porch. Family wedding photos on the wall there.

Hoosier sunset, on the way back home...erm, to Mom's house.

Um, yeah. Gotta say, that's a little sad.

Commemorates three of Indiana's 5 vice presidents: Dan Quayle (Huntington), Thomas Marshall (Columbia City), and Thomas Hendricks (Shelbyville), all of whom lived along State Road 9.

Ya Think? - Wednesday 7/30/2008

Really? You don't want me to attempt to use this device?

I'm offended! Offended, I tell you, that you tell me that I can't use the payphone when I know I am perfectly capable of operating one!

Stormy Bob - Wednesday 10/17/2007

The drizzle was almost gone by the time I took this shot, around 6:30 this morning, on my way out of Big Boy.

Yesterday I woke up at 1 a.m. and got so caught up in the book that was supposed to lull me back to sleep (Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen) that I was reading every last morsel of the author interview at the back when my alarm went off at 3:50.

So I drove down to Burbank but instead of going to Bob's I went and made a little nest on the floor of my office and slept during my usual writing time (5:15-6:30). I really needed it.

Today I was back at Bob's, making notes about the current novel as a whole. I recently wrote a scene that changes things and adds to the stakes and I feel good about it, but am taking Tomasina's advice to figure out where to go next rather than just charging happily forward.

This whole structuring thing is a puzzle. But I guess that's what makes it fun. The bulk of the plot as written during NaNoWriMo 2007 is still ahead of my heroine. Where does the new scene fit in? At the beginning? As back story after the original beginning?

Halloween is Coming! - 9/12/2007

And Cinema Secrets is the place to be! I don't very often dress up, but I love the decorations and the artwork associated with Halloween. And maybe even more so Dia de los Muertos.

I always drop by Cinema Secrets early in the season to see all the cool costumes and make-up. Love the artwork on the windows this year!

Over 500 Years of Experience - Tuesday 8/7/2007

They boast a lot of experience in the dry cleaning business on another of the signs outside of Milt & Edie's Drycleaners. And they're open 24-hours. So if you're at Bob's Big Boy in the middle of the night and you spill coffee on your tux, you can walk over here and drop it off.

You have to have affection for people who go to the trouble to put advice and deep-ish thoughts up there with their advertising.

Papoo's - Tuesday 8/31/2007

Turns out that the patio behind Papoo's Hot Dog Show is a great place to hang out between work and my writing group meeting. They're repainting and restoring their wonderful winged hot dog sign right now. I'm so glad they're investing in the upkeep. It needed it.

I'll show you the heavenly hot dog when they get done with the renovation.

Yes, Virginia. Sometimes men are hot dogs.

Circus Liquor - Tuesday 7/10/2007

You've maybe seen this in the movies somewhere. On the corner of Burbank and Vineland in North Hollywood, CA.

When I pulled into the parking lot to get the shot, I was treated to this creepy black and white clown mural. With bonus 1970s Porsche 914--the dream car of my high school years--right next to it. Swoon.

Trailer Park of Terror! - Monday 6/4/2007

Hydra and I drove home together and he showed me this sign he'd noticed along Soledad Canyon Road. At first we thought it was a prank. Then we thought, maybe a low budget film shoot.

I drove by there again on Friday, and the sign's still there.

Maybe they're just trying to tap into the local zombie market.

Wild West McDonald's Tuesday 11/29/2005

/

I don’t know… I pulled into the parking lot in front of Don Cuco’s to pick up the salads D and I ordered for supper, and this photo just suggested itself. The light was right, eh?

Our little town (pop. around 2000) has a bit of a wild west theme going. This is the McDonald’s out by the freeway. They recently remodeled inside and removed the stuffed cowboy who used to sling a golden neon lariat. Wonder where that is now…

The block-long downtown of Acton has a wooden sidewalk and old-fashioned facades. But I don’t think it comes off as too touristy because we actually use the businesses there: a market, post office, beauty shop, gym, real estate office and Chinese restaurant.

Bob's Big Boy 9/26/2005

/
Treated myself to oatmeal and coffee and some writing time this morning before work. Cheers to all 24-hour restaurants!

By the time I came out, there were gorgeous clouds in the sky and I took a shot of that too.

Out for a walk 9/22/2005

/
Last night I went for a walk around my neighborhood. I like this little metal sign on the fence at the end of the road. (There’s a gate you can go through to get to the hillside.)

It’s hard to take just one. I need to figure out this flickr thing, so I can post more photos
